The Silver Sword
Joseph Balicki escapes from a Nazi prison camp, but when he returns to his home in Warsaw in Poland, he learns his wife has been taken away by Nazi soldiers and his children – Ruth, Edek and Bronia – have disappeared.
Joseph finds a silver sword paper knife in the ruins of his home and gives it to a ragged boy called Jan on the condition that if he ever meets Joseph’s children, he is to tell them that Joseph has gone to their grandparents’ home in Switzerland and they should follow. By chance, the children do meet Jan and together they embark on a long and dangerous journey across Europe. Will the children make it to Switzerland and will they find their parents?
