Kaninda’s mum, dad and little sister Gifty – from the Kibu tribe – are murdered by Yusulu government soldiers, leading Kaninda to seek revenge by becoming a child soldier in the Kibu rebel army.
When Kaninda gets separated from his platoon, a charity finds him and takes him to Britain, placing him in the care of Betty Rose and her family in South London. Here, a boy from the Yusula tribe arrives at his school and, still full of hate and anger, Kaninda joins a local gang with the intention of killing him. But when Betty’s daughter Laura is seriously injured in a street fight, what will Kaninda do?
